Along Via del Corso, one of the building enclosing Piazza Colonna is the Y-shaped Galleria Colonna, recently refurbished and now dedicated to the Roman actor Alberto Sordi, died in 2003, famous for films as Un Americano a Roma and Il Marchese del Grillo.

Built on the model of the pre-existing galleries of Milan (Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II) and Naples (Galleria Umberto I), it was projected by Dario Carbone in 1911 to replace the demolished Piombino Palace and later inaugurated on October 20, 1922.

Built to create a meeting place for both politicians from Palazzo Montecitorio (seat of the Chamber of Deputies), journalists and businessmen, the Galleria Alberto Sordi is the first shopping mall in the city center of Rome with 26 shops, 2 bars and restaurants, events , concerts, etc.; opened from Monday to Sunday 8:30 A.M. – 9:00 P.M.
